Louisiana drivers who regularly travel outside that twenty mile radius immediately surrounding their home all seem to have the same sentiment.

There are certain towns or specific stretches of public roads where drivers better not speed. Unless you're in the mood for a speeding violation, it's better to slow well below the posted speed limit or avoid these areas entirely.

When we took to social media to ask about these little-known "speed traps" certain areas kept popping up.

First off, I need to thank everyone who gladly offered their opinion and personal experiences, and secondly, we should all heed the warnings of these other drivers and ease off the accelerator anytime we approach one of these areas.

We asked this same question in 2024 and though a couple of traps have appeared again, we have a number of new entries, so pay close attention as you examine the Top 10.

These are in no particular order but each received more mentions than the many other nominations we got.

#1 - Krotz Springs, La

While many of us marvel at the huge bridge over the Atchafalaya River on LA 190 here in Krotz Springs, we need to remember to do it under the speed limit.

The police here will remind you that Speed Limit sign isn't just a suggestion.  Traci even wrote, "Alex once got one for 5 miles over… $300!!!"

#2 - Woodworth, La.

Another one of those wonderful speed traps along I-49 in Rapides Parish just south of Alexandria.

They should almost make the town motto, "Take Your Time and Enjoy The Scenery Here in Woodworth....Or We Can Help You Slow Down. It's Your Choice."

#3 - Converse, La.

While still serious about speeders, they aren't quite as bad here as days gone by. I can personally attest to the reputation that Converse once had as a speeding trap.

No, I never got a ticket there, but anyone who used Hwy 171 to go to Toledo Bend back in the 80's and 90's knew, "You NEVER speed through Converse."

#4 - Golden Meadow, LA

If your travel will take you to Fourchon or Grand Isle, pay close attention to that speedometer when you approach Golden Meadow.

As Jeff wrote, "Only place I've intentionally went below the speed limit!"

#5 - Maurice, LA

This one got a huge number of mentions regarding perceived police misconduct but one of our favorites came from Joseph, "they pulled me over for window tent like 20 years ago. Gave me a discounted ticket if I took it to a “certain” shop to remove it."

#6 - Mamou, LA

Essentially west of Ville Platte, drivers who frequent Mamou know too well, "Slow Down Or Pay The Toll."

#7 - Robeline, LA

On Facebook Bobby wrote, "Robeline is the worst!! Those 2 units are always running radar!" But our favorite was
from Jeff who labeled it as "Robbers lane, I mean Robeline...."

#8 - Fenton, LA

Coty explains why this area is so heavily patrolled and why drivers should always decelerate when entering Fenton, "They only write speeding tickets, they don’t stop crime or work accidents because the parish or the state boys handle that. Their sole purpose is to write speeding tickets."

#9 - Dodson, LA

If you find yourself traveling south of Ruston towards Winnfield on LA 167, don't think you can speed, even just a little, through Dodson. Robin laughingly wrote, "Dodson. That cop stopped me so many times we were on a first name basis."

#10 - Pine Prairie, LA

Given its close proximity to Mamou, scores of drivers will only drive through this area if there is no other option.

Truth be told, I personally got my last speeding ticket in 2012 and it was right here in Pine Prairie. Was doing a blistering 47 in a 45 speed zone. I know, I'm a menace to society.
