While we Louisiana people might joke about it, people in other states need to know that our state bird is not actually the mosquito. It just feels that way.

While new research just released by Orkin suggests that only one city (New Orleans) in Louisiana made their list of worst cities for mosquitoes, those of us who live here, just aren't buying it.

So, if you are new to the Bayou State and about to brave your first summer here, take a deep breath and be very nice to your air conditioner repair guy.

Oh, and you might want to buy some new clothes. No, you won't have to bundle up in some type of Kevlar, bite-proof material to avoid getting hauled away by the millions of skeeters who wish to drain you of your very last drop of blood, but there is a little known clothing trick that can keep you out of harms way.

And it's not just the health dangers these blood-sucking, vampire-like, winged devils can heap upon an unsuspecting victim, the unsightly, itchy bumps they cause will have you scratching uncontrollably for several nights.

Obviously you'd like to avoid as many bites as possible, but that doesn't mean you'll spend the entire summer sentenced to a life indoors.  You just have to outsmart these little boogers, and it's actually easier than you might think.

One of the easiest ways to put mosquitoes on the road is with a good insect repellant. You'll also want to remember to wear loose fitting clothes, and if possible, shirts with long sleeves.

There Are Also Some Colors You SHOULD Wear To Avoid Being Attacked

The University of Washington did a research piece outlining why mosquitoes are attracted to those colors, but they also pointed out another four colors that mosquitoes tend to ignore, so the following would be good choices next time you plan to be outdoors:
