Traffic Could Make You Scream With I-220 Lane Closures
Saying that the road construction on I-20 in Bossier City has brought on a few other side effects is like saying that pneumonia causes a slight cough.
Due to the massive, much needed, reconstruction of I-20 in Bossier, all commercial vehicles are forced to use one of Shreveport/Bossier's only traffic relief routes, the bypass I-220.
With that increased traffic volume on I-220, any work that needs to be done on the bypass essentially cripples traffic throughout the twin cities.
However, the work must be done and we're about to have to pay the piper for the nicer roads we'll soon be able to enjoy.
The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development has just sent an advisory to all motorists that the following lane closures have been scheduled for I-220 in both Bossier and Caddo Parishes:
Monday, November 18 – Thursday, 21, 2024: I-220 eastbound inside (left) lane over Cross Lake for the purpose of repairing portions of the drainage structure on the bridge. Time frame: Approximately 9:00 am – 3:00 pm each day
Sunday, November 24, 2024: I-220 eastbound outside lane over the Red River for the purpose of repairing a bridge joint. Time frame: Approximately 6:00 am to 2:00 pm
A special note from the DOTD advises that there will be no oversized loads allowed during the lane closure scheduled for Sunday, November 24.
As with all DOTD projects, all work will be done weather permitting, so inclement weather could cause delays, extensions or other modifications to the scheduled times/days of the closures.
DOTD appreciates your patience and reminds you to please drive with caution through the construction site and be on the lookout for work crews and their equipment. Remember to leave plenty of room between you and the vehicle in front of you.
Area residents should exercise caution when driving, walking, or biking near an active construction zone.
