Louisiana High School Gets Surprise Shoutout From John Legend
(KJMH-FM) - It's not every day that anyone famous shouts out one of our local Louisiana high schools, but that's just what happened for a Central Louisiana high school earlier this week.

While they may not get much attention, high schools offer more than just popular sports like football and basketball. Most schools are full of lesser-known teams and clubs, from wrestling to robotics.
Earlier this week, music legend John Legend (yeah, THAT John Legend) gave a shoutout to the Leesville High School Black Heritage Club.
Black Heritage Clubs are typically a place where students celebrate culture, history, and community. Members plan events and activities to teach others about Black history. It also helps students feel included and learn from each other.

Below is the video from John Legend giving a shoutout to Leesville High School's Black Heritage Club:
Hello, Leesville High School, this is John Legend checking in with you. I'm hanging out with my brother, Demetrius. I love you, brother. I just wanted to shout out all you young people. who are in the black heritage club, but also all your fellow students at Leesville High School. I remember being in your shoes when I was that age. And, um, I had a lot of dreams for myself about what I wanted to do. I was actually in an essay competition for Black History Month. They asked the question, how do you plan to make black history? And I said, I want to become a famous singer. I want to use my position to help my people to reach back and make sure other people have opportunities, and that I uplift my community. And so I've dedicated my life to doing that. And I've been able to live my dreams. And I believe that you can live your dreams too. And I want you to drink big, and then I want you to go out there and work really hard and make those dreams come true. All right? peace and love to all of you.
