The Disappointing Average SAT Score in Texas
It pains me to report that the average SAT score in Texas is among the lowest in the country.
Like every Texan I know, I’m proud of my home state. Texas pride is ingrained in us at a young age. But I’ll be the first to admit that we can always be better. This is one of those times.
First and foremost, I am no expert in education. So, I have no earthly idea how to address the low average SAT score here in the Lone Star State. I’m merely reporting on an article I came across about the average SAT score in every state in 2024.

But if I were in a position to address the issue, I would probably reach out to officials in Wisconsin, Kentucky, Kansas, or well, any of the states with the top SAT scores in the country to try and learn their secret.
I realize it’s a complex issue and you can’t just wave a wand and make the problem go away. But if there’s anything those other states are doing that could elevate Texas from an average SAT score of 1001, making it the state with the 11th worst average score in the country, it would be worth a shot.
So, my hope is that maybe someone with much more knowledge and power than me will take notice of this article and get the ball rolling to improve the average SAT score here.
We like to say everything is bigger in Texas. Unfortunately, that doesn’t apply to SAT scores.
