
Bossier Mayor Presents 21 Year Veteran Blair Bockhaus as New Fire Chief
Bossier City Mayor Tommy Chandler presented his selection for Bossier City’s new Fire Chief, Blair Bockhaus, at 10 a.m. Monday at the Bossier City Fire and Police Department Training Center on Stockwell Road.
After opening remarks by the Mayor, District Judge Doug Stinson administered the oath of office. Mayor Tommy Chandler opened by saying “the two most important positions in city government is the Police Chief, and the Fire Chief, because they are charged with the safety of the citizens.”
Mayor Chandler stated his most important priority “as the Mayor of the great city of Bossier City is the safety of the citizens, visitors, and workers of Bossier City.”
Bockhaus is a 21-year veteran of the Bossier City Fire Department. The promotion follows the retirement of Chief Brad Zagone, who served the department for 31 years and spent nearly 14 years as chief. His final day on the job was Friday.
The City of Bossier City covers roughly 41 square miles and is home to more than 62,000 residents. The Bossier City Fire Department (BCFD) serves and protects the city with 9 fire stations and over 200 employees.
Chief Bockhaus will oversee a department that not only provides traditional Fire and EMS services, but also:
- Hazardous Materials Operations
- High-angle and confined space rescue
- Water rescue
- Bomb Squad
- Fire Prevention
- SWAT
- Public Education Programs
- Fire investigations and annual fire inspections.
The BCFD also has a training academy, a communications division and a fire maintenance division. The BCFD is fully equipped to handle any emergency the citizens of the city will face. Mayor Chandler stated that the Bossier City Fire Department in “one of the best Fire Departments in the state.”
