T.W. Garner Food Company is recalling 50,688 bottles of 12 oz. Texas Pete® Buffalo Wing Sauce. The recalled hot sauce comes with best used dates of 120623T 065239 UPC 0 75500 10011 6.

What’s the Problem with the Hot Sauce?

The voluntary recall was issued because some of the bottles might contain Texas Pete® Extra Mild Wing Sauce and that version has soy, but soy is not mentioned on the label for the recalled sauce.

You should be on the lookout for a 12 oz. glass bottle with orange sauce, called Texas Pete® Buffalo Wing Sauce. Check the cap of the bottle for the best used by 120623T 065239 information.

The FDA says "the recall was initiated after a report was received from a direct customer that a bottle labeled as Texas Pete® Buffalo Wing Sauce was located instead of Texas Pete® Extra Mild Wing Sauce. The bottle of Texas Pete® Buffalo Wing Sauce was missing the allergen declaration of soy."

The FDA says some people could have a life-threatening allergic reaction to the soy.

"People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to soy run the risk of (a) serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume this product," the FDA states in its recall notice.

Looks like the problem was caused by the use of the wrong label during at least one production run of the sauce.

What States Are Impacted by the Recall?

This recalled hot sauce was shipped to distribution centers and retail stores located in Louisiana and the following states: AL, CT, FL, GA, MS, NC, NY PA, SC, TN, TX and VA.

You can take the hot sauce back to the store for a full refund or toss it out.

So far, no illnesses have been reported.

Despite the name, Texas Pete is not made in Texas. It’s actually made in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. It’s reportedly the seventh-best selling hot sauce in the U.S.
