
Louisiana Residents Help Push Easter Spending to a Record High
Easter is coming up and it’s a big time for candy purchases. The National Retail Federation says we will spend a record of $24.9 billion dollars this year. Holy cow! That’s a lot of money. It easily surpasses the previous record of $24 billion which was set in 2023. One of the big reasons the number will go so high this year is because prices are up on many of the things we buy for Easter.
How Much Will Each Person Spend for Easter
If you take a look at the average spending for this special holiday, we will shell out a record high of $195.59, up from the previous record of $192.01 in 2023.
NRF Chief Economist Mark Mathews says “while economic uncertainty remains on the minds of many, consumers are still focused on holiday celebrations like Easter.” Mathews adds: “holidays provide an important opportunity for families to reconnect and create lasting memories, even as economic conditions fluctuate.”
What Will We Spend Money on for Easter?
At the top of the list, as you might imagine is candy. 92% of shoppers plan to buy some Easter treats. Other top categories include food (90%), gifts (64%), decorations (53%) and clothing (51%).
How Big Is the Easter Holiday?
At least 80% of consumers are planning to celebrate Easter. Many of the things people buy can be traced back to family traditions. That could include Easter flowers, baskets and items that you have always gotten during Easter.
Easter will also be a big day for food. More than half of us will celebrate with a holiday meal for extended family.
Where Do People Shop for Easter?
We love a bargain and this is clear in looking at the Easter shopping data. 55% of us will be heading for discount stores to pick up Easter items. 42% plan to shop at department stores while 34% of us will shop online.
