Louisiana Buc-ee’s Construction Begins in Ruston
Ruston has officially broken ground on one of the largest Buc-ee's travel centers in the nation. Ruston Mayor Ronny Walker told KEEL News on Thursday that heavy equipment arrived in mid-September, marking the start of the 74,000-square-foot project that will feature 700 parking spaces and dozens of fueling stations. The Buc-ee's is expected to open in January or February of 2027.
“This is the new model that Buc-ee's is building,” Walker said. “It’s bigger than the earlier stores, and we’re thrilled it’s coming to Ruston.”
Job Creation and Benefits for North Louisiana
When complete, the Ruston Buc-ee's is expected to employ more than 250 people, with entry-level pay averaging $18 to $20 per hour. Supervisory and management positions will earn more, and all employees will receive benefits including health insurance and a 401(k).

“These are quality jobs,” Walker explained. “It’s not just the pay, but also the health insurance and retirement options, which are so important for families in North Louisiana.”
Infrastructure and Housing Growth
The city has already invested heavily in infrastructure upgrades, including water, sewer, and electricity improvements to support Buc-ee's. The state is also working with Ruston to redesign the interchange and roadways leading to the site, ensuring traffic can be managed when the store opens.
Housing growth is also accelerating. A new development featuring 304 single-family homes recently broke ground, and the city is seeing continued growth in apartments for Louisiana Tech and Grambling State University students.
Anticipated Regional Impact
Mayor Walker said Buc-ee's will not only benefit Ruston but all of North Louisiana. The company purchased 82 acres, using roughly half for the travel center and leaving the rest for future development. New businesses are already eyeing opportunities to build nearby.
“This isn’t just Ruston,” Walker said. “This is Lincoln Parish and the whole north part of the state. Buc-ees is going to have a tremendous impact on our region.”
Looking Ahead
Officials anticipate a major grand opening event in early 2027, likely featuring state leaders and attracting visitors from across the region. Until then, Ruston continues preparing for what many expect to be one of the city’s biggest economic drivers since Louisiana Tech.
