Saints Welcome New Legends To Hall Of Fame This Season

The New Orleans Saints are set to welcome two new members to their Hall of Fame this season. Not Saints players going into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, but this is the Saints' team Hall of Fame.

Saints Welcome New Legends to Hall of Fame

Right now, there are 59 members of the Saints Hall of Fame, with the most recent addition being Drew Brees. Who was inducted in 2024, as a single inductee that season. While in many years, there are two inductee into the Saints hall. Which we will see this year.

The two inductees for 2025 will be safety Brett Maxie and cornerback Tracy Porter.

Brett Maxie: A Saints Defensive Stalwart

Maxie played in New Orleans for 9 seasons, between 1985 and 1993. The Dallas native signed with the Saints as an undrafted rookie out of Texas Southern. His Saints career included 118 games played, 438 tackles, 5 fumble recoveries, 3 sacks, and 15 interceptions. Maxie returned 3 of those interceptions for touchdowns.

He was a contributor on Saints defensive squads that helped the franchise make the NFL playoffs in 1987, 1991, and 1992.

Tracy Porter: Super Bowl Hero Enters Saints Hall

Tracy Porter actually played for the Saints for fewer seasons than Maxie, but may be better remembered. Mostly because Porter shined for the Saints when the lights were the brightest.

Porter was drafted by the Saints in the second round of the 2008 draft out of Indiana. He became a starter for the Saints in his rookie season, where he had 25 tackles, 1 sack, and 1 interception. For his whole Saints career, which lasted from 2008 through 2011, Porter played in 43 games, with 195 tackles, 4 forced fumbles, 3 fumble recoveries, 7 interceptions, and one touchdown.

The moment that galvanized Porter's Saints legacy came in Super Bowl XLIV. With less than 4 minutes left in the game, Porter jumped a route, intercepted a Peyton Manning pass, and returned it 74 yards for a touchdown. That made the score 31-17, which was the final score of the game. That interception and touchdown sealed the Saints first ever Super Bowl championship.

This was the first Super Bowl interception thrown by Peyton Manning that was returned for a touchdown.

Honoring Saints Greats: Maxie, Porter, and Gleason

During the 2025 season, both Maxie and Porter will be forever immortalized by the Saints Hall of Fame. Alongside this year's Saints Hall of Fame Courage Award recipient, Steve Gleason.
