Shreveport Police Arrest Two Juveniles for Car Theft and Police Chase
Over the weekend, Shreveport Police officers responded to Kemp Lane after receiving a report that a Dodge Charger had been stolen.
Officers quickly found the stolen car. When officers attempted a traffic stop, the driver fled before reaching a dead end, abandoning the car, and running into a wooded area.
K-9 Officer Enzo was deployed and immediately picked up the suspect’s trail. Enzo tracked through multiple wooded areas, across roads, and behind several homes before leading officers directly to a nearby house.
SPD Officers found muddy clothes, a backpack matching the one carried by the suspect, a cellphone, a screwdriver, and a pry bar inside the home. A juvenile later admitted to driving the stolen vehicle, fleeing from Officers, crashing, running through the woods, entering the house through a window, and changing clothes.
A second juvenile located during the investigation was found to have an outstanding vehicle theft warrant out of Baton Rouge.
Both juveniles were transported to the Juvenile Detention Center.
One juvenile was charged with:
· Theft of a motor vehicle
· Resisting an officer
· Illegal possession of weapons involving burglary tools
· Hit-and-run driving
The other juvenile was charged with:
· Criminal trespassing
· Fugitive warrant for theft of a motor vehicle
From SPD:
"The Shreveport Police Department understands that young people sometimes make poor decisions. However, these were not harmless acts of mischief. Vehicle theft, fleeing from police, hit-and-run driving, and entering another person’s home are serious crimes that can result in injuries or deaths involving residents, officers, and the juveniles themselves."
