Shreveport Water Troubles Continue, But Progress Is Being Made
Shreveport is still dealing with a water crisis. Crews have been working around the clock to get the problem fixed. A 42" water main near the water plant on Cross Lake ruptured over the weekend. The break was under water, so crews have been busy installing a temporary bypass to the system.
What Areas Are Seeing Improvements?
• The airport area is seeing a significant pressure increase and is doing well.
• Most local hospitals are reporting improvements and are near normal levels.
• Pressure has also improved in west Shreveport.
All of the city remains under a voluntary boil advisory. The advisory will not be lifted until the bypass line is removed, the system is fully stabilized, and water samples are collected and confirmed safe in coordination with the Louisiana Department of Health.
Mayor Tom Arceneaux is hopeful the repairs will be made by Friday.
Where Can Shreveport Residents Get Water?
Water distribution sites will be operating around the city today at these locations:
Summer Grove Baptist Church 2-6pm
State Fairgrounds 2-6pm
Shreve City 2-6pm
6140 Greenwood Road 2-6pm
Huntington High School 2-6pm
Captain Shreve High School 2-6pm
The water main that broke dates back to 1979 and it is taking very specialized equipment and crews to get to the problem.
Several local businesses had to shut down on Monday because of little to no water pressure. Most schools in Caddo Parish are having virtual learning again today because of water troubles. Porta potties were distributed around the city to businesses that needed to have facilities available to the public.
