SHREVEPORT, LA - This is a day these Shreveport children and even the grownups will remember forever. They will tell these stories to their children and grandchildren for generations to come. A day of sledding in Shreveport is very rare. But it happened this week.

This is the spot known by locals as "thrill hill". It's on Gilbert in the South Highlands neighborhood. It's a steep hill that makes for perfect conditions for a little red neck sledding. And this time, a local resident even stepped it up a bit by serving hot chocolate to the crowd and boy was there a crowd.

The youngsters brought out all kinds of items to try their luck on the big hill. Some were using garbage can lids. Others had some hard plastic sheets. You even saw a couple of real sleds in the crowd.

During snowmaggedon a couple of years ago, the city tried to keep this big hill open to traffic, so it was very limited for the thrill seekers.

This year, it was the hottest spot in town on this ice cold day.

In my view, there is nothing better than pure joy on the face of a child and that's what you were seeing on these happy faces this week. It's so wonderful.

To enjoy "thrill hill", you have to prepare to gut it out. You have to carry your sled of choice up that long march to the top of the hill before you get to launch down the roadway.

And yes, we saw lots of folks out there. Children weren't the only ones enjoying "thrill hill". Grown-ups and even pets were enjoying a day of play.

We do have to send a word of gratitude to David Bushnell for setting up the hot chocolate stand. He says he only wished he'd made more. He served up at least 100 cups on hot chocolate on Monday.

Snow Day! See Photos of Country Stars + Their Kiddos Playing in the Snow

Monday (Jan. 15) was an unusually wintry day in Nashville, with several inches piling up. Snow like this doesn't come around Middle Tennessee often, so of course country stars, their kids and even their pets had to get out and play!
