In the aftermath of the recent storm that crashed through the Arklatex Sunday night, thousands are still left without power in Shreveport, Bossier and throughout the Swepco service area.  But Swepco officials confirm that they are working diligently to restore customers back to full power as quickly as possible.

Swepco External Affairs Manager Michael Corbin released the following statement on Wednesday morning:

Crews have made remarkable progress with restoration during the initial 48 hours following the Sunday evening storms.

Out of town crews will begin to return home today as our SWEPCO and AEP Crews finish up remaining work.  We expect to be at normal operation levels by mid-afternoon today.

 The staging center at Brookshires Grocery Arena has been closed and the Feeding/Staging area at the Louisiana State Fairgrounds is expected to cease operations Thursday.

 Remaining restoration work will address the remaining larger outages, primarily in areas where confirmed tornados damaged trees and wires, as well as the scattered outages where one or two customers remain out on a larger circuit.

 AEP Meteorologists are watching possible storms approaching the area on Thursday and over the weekend.

The National Weather Service is calling for storms to move back into our area late Wednesday night into Thursday, calling for thunderstorms and heavy rain by Thursday afternoon.  There is also a concern for more flooding as this storm is expected to bring up to 2 inches of rain to an already saturated area.
