I always try to time to point out all the wonderful things we have in Shreveport-Bossier. Because, let's be honest, if you hop on social media all you see is the negative stuff. But we have some really cool stuff in town. The Norton Art Gallery, The Water Works Museum, the Spring Street Museum, the American Rose Center...I mean the list is endless.

But when talking about cool stuff in our city, one place that doesn't get brought up enough is Sci-Port Discovery Center in Downtown Shreveport.

Sci-Port in Shreveport Is More Than Just a Kid's Museum

I know when I think of Sci-Port, I think kids. And that's because it's a science and entertainment center center with a Children's museum and all that. Adult activities aren't exactly the first thing that pop to mind.

BUT, with that said, Sci-Port does occasionally have some fun stuff going on for us grown folks. They host fairs, parties, show movies and a ton of other stuff. In fact, Sci-Port is home to Louisiana's only IMAX Dome Theater. So yeah, it's geared towards youth, but there's also some adult stuff mixed in.

Experience the History of Led Zeppelin in IMAX at Sci-Port

Sci-Port is home to the Goodman IMAX Dome - which a state of the art, immersive theater experience. 4K laser projections, top of the line audio...it's truly an unparalleled experience.

And yes, they show educational films about Antarctica and Penguins and all the stuff you'd expect from a STEM facility. But they also show new releases. Which brings us to the point of this post.

Starting on Friday, Sci-Port will begin showing the new Led Zeppelin documentary "Becoming Zeppelin". The doc will showcase interviews, performances and never-before-seen footage about the band on their rise to global superstardom.

We'll never get to see Led Zeppelin perform in concert again...but thanks to this state of the art IMAX theater, you can travel back in time for a few hours.

Led Zeppelin's Connection to Shreveport

It's hard to imagine that an English band has much connection to our area, but there is a little one. And that is that Robert Plant, Led Zeppelin's frontman, was heavily influenced by the music that came from our region - specifically Lead Belly and the Louisiana Hayride.

Which is probably why when Robert goes on a solo tour, he generally makes a stop at Municipal Auditorium. In the past, he has called the iconic musical venue 'hallowed ground'.

Legendary Musicians Who Rocked The Hirsch In Shreveport

Here's a sample of the legendary musical acts who have played Shreveport's Memorial Coliseum over the last 60 years. The Hirsch was basically the homefield for bands like Van Halen and ZZ Top, who regularly put the Hirsch near the top of their tours. For that reason, we're actually not going to feature them on this list, because they were basically "house bands" for Shreveport...and that's NOT a bad thing.
