When you think of movies filmed in Texas, you probably think of movies that couldn't be filmed anywhere else. Ok, in reality, the filmmaking industry is so good now, they can make an empty warehouse in Turkey look like Dallas...so...

But what I'm actually talking about are the movies that are SO Texas, they couldn't be filmed somewhere else. Friday Night Lights, Lonestar, Bonnie and Clyde, Varsity Blues, Dazed and Confused, and of course Texas Chainsaw Massacre. These movies were so Texas, it would have been ridiculous to film them anywhere else.

However, that same concept has been flipped a time or two. Movies based on a location so far from Texas that it would feel ridiculous to film it in the Lone Star state.

Now, to be fair, we will point out right away that some of these movies have sequences filmed in Texas, even if the bulk was filmed somewhere else. The purpose of this exercise is to point you to movies that you would have NEVER guessed has anything to do with Texas.

While the ones we listed as being "so Texas" they had to be filmed here, the ones below are movies that you'd likely not be able to pick out as being filmed in Texas. Movies with Texas as the setting obviously have landmarks and spots you can recognize as being Texas. But the following movies either worked hard to avoid showing Texas, or tried to make you think its Texas location was somewhere else.
