Bossier Native and LSU National Champion Released By NFL Team
Former Parkway Panther and LSU Tiger Terrace Marshall, Jr will be looking for a new NFL team. He's reportedly been released by the Carolina Panthers, the team who drafted him in the second round (59th overall pick) of the 2021 NFL Draft.
Marshall has played in 36 games over the last three seasons, starting 16 of them for the Panthers. However he has had a rough road in his NFL career, which isn't all his fault. The franchise that selected him in the draft has been historically bad since he broke into the league.
In his NFL career, Marshall has caught 64 passes for 767 yards and only 1 touchdown. But again, this lack of production isn't all on Marshall. His starting quarterbacks over the last 3 seasons include P.J. Walker, Sam Darnold, Bryce Young, and 36-year-old Andy Dalton.
At LSU, Marshall was a major part of the 2019 National Championship team with Joe Burrow and Coach Ed Orgeron.
While no one ever likes to be cut, this actually might be a great thing for Marshall. Before training camp ended, reporters had caught wind of the probability that Marshall would be on the move. There were numerous stories written about the possibility that Marshall could be traded to teams like the Washington Commanders, Dallas Cowboys, or Buffalo Bills.
Any of these destinations would be a massive improvement for Marshall, based on those offenses versus the offense in Carolina.
If he had to stay in Carolina, he would be dealing with another new head coach (Dave Canales) which would be his 4th head coach since he was drafted in 2021. His quarterback would still be Bryce Young, who has a ton of question marks surrounding him and his ability to play at the NFL level, and a terrible offensive line.
Now that he's been cut, he can seek out his own opportunity. If he lands in Washington, he will have another LSU legend throwing him the ball. The Commanders will look to 2nd overall draft pick Jayden Daniels to be their QB this year. Pairing Marshall with Terry McLaurin would make a dynamic duo.
If Marshall goes to Buffalo, he would have Josh Allen throwing to him, and would be able to help fill the gap left by Stefon Diggs.
But perhaps the best place for Marshall would be the Dallas Cowboys. The team that is closest to Bossier City geographically also features an Ark-La-Tex high school legend of offense. Dak Prescott throwing the ball to Terrace Marshall would be an amazing scenario this season.
