The 2024 NFL Free Agency period is underway, and its no secret that the Dallas Cowboys haven't done much. In fact, the Cowboys have been so silent at the start of free agency, they've become the punchline for NFL fans all over. Even their own fans have been clowning the franchise online.

Now, the Cowboys did finally make a substantial move, by agreeing to terms with linebacker Eric Kendricks. Which, to be fair, was impressive since they flipped his previous agreement with the San Francisco 49ers. But its still just a drop in the buck compared to what the other teams in the NFC East have been doing.

With a ton of high-end free agents already off the market, the Cowboys might be forced to look to the NFL Draft to address all of their issues. Which isn't exactly what fans had in mind when they heard the team was talking about going "all in" this offseason. But it is possible the team could get a lot better with the right draft picks.

With Tony Pollard leaving the team, the running back position has suddenly become very important for the team, but will the value of the running back options in the draft make sense in the first round? Picking at #24 overall would make a running back selection more manageable than a top 10 pick (just based on the slotted value teams assign to positions).

Jonathon Brooks from Texas, Trey Benson from Florida State, and Blake Corum from Michigan are the highest ranked running backs in this draft class, but none of them are really graded as first round draft picks. But if the Cowboys fall in love with someone like Corum, there's no rule that says that can't take him at #24...its just more realistic they could get him with their second or third round pick.

Outside of running back, the biggest thing the Cowboys will need comes on the offensive line. Both interior lineman and tackles would be useful for Dallas. Late in the first round, there could be some big talent at the tackle position left on the board.

Players like JC Latham from Alabama or Amarius Mims from Georgia could still be available. If Latham somehow falls, and is on the board when the draft gets within 10 picks of the Cowboys, a flash trade to jump up and take him would be a MASSIVE upgrade to the line right away. Something that would be better than anything they could do currently in free agency. So maybe the draft is a better plan.
