TV TRIP: 10 East Texas Cities Seen On TV’s The Daytripper
One of my favorite TV shows is "The DayTripper" which airs on mostly PBS stations all across the state.
The Daytripper with Chet Garner is a Texas-based travel show that takes viewers on a journey through the hidden gems and iconic landmarks of the Lone Star State. Each episode focuses on a different Texas town, from small rural communities to well-known destinations
Hosted by the charismatic and ever-enthusiastic Chet Garner, the show blends history, adventure, and mouth-watering food in a way that captures the true spirit of Texas. I've used the show myself as a personal guide to check things out all over the state.
If you didn't know, 10 East Texas towns and cities have been featured on the show. Let's take a look at their episodes.
1. Tyler
On their visit to Tyler, they of course stopped by the Tyler Rose Garden, Stanley's and they made a few other stops that surprised me that I didn't know was in the city like the Tyler Candy Co.
2. Palestine
They'll teach you the right way to say PAL-S-TEEN and make a stop at a not-so-secret facility ran by NASA as well as eat some delicious food.
3. Nacogdoches
Nac is the oldest city in Texas but there's lot of young energy there thanks to Stephen F. Austin University and you might have to pull up to CC's and get a good steak.
4. Mt. Pleasant
Sushi in Mt. Pleasant, TX? Believe it! They also make a stop over to Pittsburg to grab a few of the world famous Pittsburg Hot Links.
5. Lufkin
In this episode, you'll find out that Lufkin is the home of the Atkinson Candy Co. home of the Chick-O-Stick and those zebra-wrapped peanut butter bars. Plus lots of outdoor activities at Davy Crockett National Forest.
6. Longview
Can somebody in Longview hook me up with a hot air balloon ride? The crew gets taken through Longview in a balloon and they check out a few restaurants.
7. Kilgore
Highlights including the Texas Broadcast Museum and the Kilgore Rangerettes Museum.
8. Jacksonville
An update to this episode: Sylvia Mae's Soul Food is unfortunately no longer open. Sadler's Kitchen is open so check them out.
9. Athens
Sadly, the Henderson County Historical Museum has permanently closed but you can still go ziplining through the Piney Woods!
10. Canton
Of course Canton Trade Days is featured as well as the famous Dairy Palace which I'm about to make the drive to now.
