What Is Galaxy Gas and Why Are Texas Officials Warning Parents About It?
Have you heard about the Galaxy Gas trend that is apparently taking over social media? If not, don't worry, you aren't the only one, and Texas officials are now recognizing they need to speak out and warn both kids and parents about the trend.
According to KENS5.com, Galaxy Gas is a type of whippet or inhalant drugs that has been featured on YouTube, TikTok and other social media platforms. And police say they can have deadly consequences.
According to the report, teenagers are using Galaxy Gas to huff nitrous oxide in order to get high. Officials say use of the drug can cause psychosis and in some cases it could be lethal.
The use of whippets causes brain cells to die as a result of oxygen deprivation known as hypoxia and brain damage can be permanent, according to officials.
According to KENS5, Galaxy Gas is now the common term for nitrous oxide products sold online, including on social media.
The Kerrviille Police Department took to Facebook recently to warn parents about Galaxy Gas and the trend popping up on social media.
The company behind Galaxy Gas has posted a warning on their website and according to KENS5, TikTok has banned the search term in their search function.
Still, it's a trend that could be deadly and one parents need to know about.
