Chocolate Treat Popular with Louisiana Snackers Recalled by FDA
In Louisiana, we love to snack. In Cajun Country around Lafayette, Abbeville, Crowley, and St Martinville we're quite fond of our cracklins when it comes to snacking. But don't worry, there is no recall on cracklins, so you're free to snack away on those. However, if someone you love got for you, or you got for yourself a certain chocolate-covered treat for Valentine's Day, you might want to check the packaging, and then confirm that your relationship is still in good standing.
The folks at the Food and Drug Administration as well as the Food Safety Inspection Service have certainly been busy these past few weeks, haven't they? We've seen recalls on several products. Please remember, that all of these recalls issued from the FDA or via the manufacturer are for your own safety. So please follow the instructions should you have any recalled items in your home.
One of the big concerns in food safety these days has to do with allergens and proper product labeling. Some allergy sufferers face a life or death situation when exposed to certain substances so making sure that everyone knows what's inside a product is a major concern for not only food makers but for consumers.
The Mauna Loa Macadamia Nut Company has issued a recall on their 1-ounce packages of Mauna Loa Milk Chocolate Covered Macadamias. The reason for the recall is this, they didn't declare almonds as an allergen. You might be asking why are almonds in a package of macadamia nuts and I wouldn't blame you.
We don't want to speculate but perhaps there was some cross-contamination in the manufacturing process? Regardless, nut allergies can be deadly and it's good that the recall is being brought to your attention.
If you purchased the recalled product chances are you would have purchased it at World Market or at Abraham & Sons, Inc. If you have any of the recalled products you're encouraged to return the product to the point of purchase for a refund or replacement. Or you may contact Customer Service at 1-888-255-5998.
