‘Lafayette Louisiana, Birthplace of Jazz’ T-Shirts Causing a Stir at Lafayette Airport Gift Shop
Right now there are t-shirts being sold at the Lafayette airport gift shop that read "Lafayette, Louisiana. Birthplace of Jazz" and...well people are kind of loving it and scrambling to buy them before they sell out.
What Is Lafayette, Louisiana Known For?
If you're born and raised in Lafayette, you probably don't often think about how important tourism dollars are for the City.
There are many places, festivals, restaurants and more that bring tourists to Lafayette and Acadiana from all over the world.
Lafayette has a rich history dating back to the early 19th century. Visitors can explore historical sites such as Vermilionville, a living history museum showcasing Cajun and Creole life in the region from 1765 to 1890.
Besides the world famous Festival International, Lafayette hosts several other notable events, including the Acadiana Po-boy Festival, the Boudin Festival, the Crawfish Festival, and numerous more.
Obviously, we're known for our Cajun and Creole cuisine. Dishes like gumbo, jambalaya, crawfish étouffée, boudin, cracklin, and much more.
Then, there's the music.
Lafayette is also known for its rich musical heritage, especially Cajun and Zydeco music. These genres are deeply rooted in the region's cultural history and are a significant part of the city's identity.
Of all of the things Lafayette is known for, Jazz music is nowhere on the list.
However, a t-shirt currently for sale in the gift shop at the Lafayette Regional Airport says we are apparently a hotbed for Jazz.
Actually, not just a hotbed, but the "Birthplace of Jazz".
Someone let the gift shop at the airport know how wrong this is please.

Sorry New Orleans, Lafayette is now the new birthplace of jazz...and apparently since 1821.
Posted to Reddit by chucklesmcfarland with the headline of "Someone let the gift shop at the airport know how wrong this is please", the comments are not what was expected.
We thought the comments would be filled with a little anger towards this shirt because...the internet.
However, for the most part, people are having a good time with it and many are scrambling to get their hands on one before they sell out.
