Why Is Mardi Gras So Early In 2027?

Unlike holidays with fixed dates, Mardi Gras changes every year because it's tied to Easter.

Fat Tuesday always falls 47 days before Easter Sunday, and because Easter can land anywhere from late March to late April, Mardi Gras can happen anytime between February 3 and March 9.

In 2027, Easter arrives earlier than it did this year, pushing Mardi Gras all the way up to Tuesday, February 9.

One Of The Shortest Carnival Seasons In Years

An early Mardi Gras doesn't just mean cooler weather for parade-goers.

It also means there's simply less time between Twelfth Night (January 6) and Mardi Gras Day for parades, balls, cook-offs, and all the traditions that make the Mardi Gras season so special across Louisiana.
