Louisiana loves to golf. At the last check there were not quite 100 golf courses scattered about Louisiana. Most of those are the traditional 18-hole courses. Most of those courses are the standard “par-72” and the difficulty of the courses varies.

Louisiana is also home to the oldest par three golf course in the nation. The course at Bringhurst Park in Alexandria is a treat for golfers who “can’t drive for show” but understand the need to “putt for dough”. The course is nine holes long and each hole is a par three.

But the courses we are focusing on for this narrative are the ones that feature holes that are rated at “par two” for the most part. These courses are less about brawn and physical acumen and more about finesse and angles. Such is the world of miniature golf. This is why it’s such a great family activity. Mom and Dad can play right alongside the kids and sometimes, luck beats skill when it comes to making the lowest score.

The website Family Vaycayer did a survey about miniature golf courses in Louisiana and the site came up with their top seven. The site found a course in New Orleans to be the “top rated” miniature golf course in the state. They also noted that three Acadiana towns had mini-golf courses that made the top seven. And each course offers its own unique set of challenges and charms for those to choose to spend some family time trying to put the brightly colored ball in the cup.

For those in the Lafayette area the course at Kart Ranch in Broussard is a great way to get outside and test your skills without overexerting yourself in the summertime heat. The 18 hole “adventure course” is dotted with all kinds of obstacles to test your putting skills. There are waterfalls and selected scenes from life in South Louisiana that make this a great getaway as well as a physical challenge for those who choose to play.

Also, in the Lafayette area there is the course at Cajun Fast Track but let me warn you, like at Kart Ranch, it might be hard to get the family to focus on just mini golf at this family entertainment center in Breaux Bridge. In addition to the golf there are go karts, laser tag, a dinosaur park, and a lot more but the one thing mini golf at Cajun Fast Track has which is sure to make Dad smile is that it is indoors. For non Louisiana residents that means air conditioned. So, if you want to play you can play anytime rain or shine. The course is 18 holes long and features an homage to Route 66.

The third Acadiana area course that made the Family Vaycayer top seven list is a bit of drive what most of us would consider the heart of Acadiana. That course is in Morgan City, and it’s called Noah’s Mini Golf Adventures. To be technically correct we should say the course is in Bayou Vista Louisiana and as you might imagine the theme of the course is Noah’s Ark. The course is 18 holes long.

The price of admission and the cost per round varies from course to course but it’s usually a reasonable fee for an hour or so of family fun. Oh, and if you’re in Lake Charles, the Putt-Putt Golf Center in that city also made the top seven list.

Now after a tough day of dodging windmills and chasing waterfalls with a putter and brightly colored golf ball you and the family will probably want a cool treat, right?
