Life in Louisiana has a lot to offer the adventurous soul. We also have a lot to offer the soul that just wants to sit and watch the world go by. But would hunting an alligator in Louisiana's Atchafalaya River Basin make your bucket list? What about sucking the heads and pinching the tails of five pounds of crawfish at the Breaux Bridge Crawfish Festival? Would you want to do that before you die?

Such is the case of the "bucket list". You're familiar with the concept, right? It's things you'd like to see or do before your time on this Earth in this realm expires. For a lot of people travel is high on the bucket list. I know for me visiting places like Tahiti, the Pyramids, Singapore, the Berlin Wall, and the palaces of Russia have been monumental in shaping my view of the world.

What Should Be on Your Louisiana Bucket List?

Closer to home, we've managed to mark a few things off of our bucket list in Louisiana too. But that's my list, what about yours? Or, if you aren't sure what you might want to consider as part of your life experience you could look to a trusted resource. For me, the periodical that is "All Things South" is Southern Living Magazine. My mom was a subscriber for years and I like their stories too.

Southern Living has recently published on its website the  25 Southern Bucket List Experiences That Will Change Your Life.  I can't say I disagree with any of their choices, except for the lack of specificity author Tara Massouleh McCay chose not to include in naming the two choices from the state of Louisiana.

Tara's choice for a "bucket list" experience in Louisiana was "Dine at New Orleans Classic Restaurants". Okay. I guess. She named a few like Galatoire's and Brennan's Commander's Palace, and Dooky Chase's too. All great choices but you're saying go eat in New Orleans. I'd think a Lucky Dog would be more of a "bucket list" thing. But that's me and I guess that's why my bucket and your bucket might be different.

The other vague choice for Louisiana on the list was "Attend a Real Mardi Gras Celebration". Okay, she mentioned Mobile, Alabama in the article but I can forgive that. She also suggested New Orleans for Mardi Gras. Tara, please come to Eunice or Church Point or Kaplan or Mamou for Mardi Gras. Do it just once and you'll realize that New Orleans is faux and Mobile is even fauxer (is that a word?).

Some of the other items on the Southern Bucket List from Southern Living were a race at Talladega, the Kentucky Derby, and seeing Graceland. If you want to check out the entire list, we have that linked for you, right here.
