The Lafayette community is in mourning following the tragic loss of a Sheriff’s Deputy who succumbed to life-threatening injuries after a self-inflicted gunshot incident near First Baptist Christian School on Wednesday (Apr. 17).

The Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office confirmed the deputy's passing early this morning, based on information received from the Coroner’s Office.

As news of the deputy's death spread, an outpouring of grief and condolences has come from multiple law enforcement agencies across Acadiana, reflecting the deep sense of loss felt by the community. Fellow officers, friends, and family members have shared heartfelt tributes, remembering the deputy not only for his dedication to public service but also as a cherished family member, friend, and School Resource Officer (SRO).

The deputy, whose commitment to the community was evident in his years of service, is being hailed as a person who dedicated his life to the safety and well-being of others. His role as an SRO brought him close to many in the community, where he was respected and loved by students and staff alike.
