UPDATE:

Lafayette Police Department spokesman Kendaris Handy says that officials have arrested a man in relation to the shooting death that happened near an apartment complex on Robley Drive.

Handy says they have arrested 19-year-old Kayden Wilson of Ville Platte. He has been charged with one count of 2nd-degree murder. Wilson was booked into the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center.

Officials with the Lafayette Police Department have identified the person shot at an apartment complex early Wednesday morning at 18-year-old Toren Martin.

Lafayette Police Department Spokesman Matthew Benoit says the three people involved in the vehicle pursuit this morning were arrested on unrelated charges.

ORIGINAL:

Officers with the Lafayette Police Department were called out to an apartment complex in the 1000 block of Robley Drive just after midnight after a report of shots being fired.

The officers found a person who had multiple gunshot wounds and they rendered aid until the person could be taken to an area hospital. The victim died.

Officials say when the officers arrived they saw a vehicle in the area that they believed could have been involved in the shooting situation. Police were unsuccessful when they tried to stop the vehicle, but the vehicle took off.

A chase by the Lafayette Police Department ensued and went through Vermilion Parish with the chase ending in Kaplan according to Lafayette Police Department Spokesman Matthew Benoit. Three people were arrested at the scene.

Detectives with the Criminal Investigations Division, along with Crime Scene investigators are continuing to investigate all of the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
