Sheriff Spillman said the investigation into the incident remains ongoing.

The following message was sent to parents by West Feliciana Parish Schools officials regarding the incident:

After the bus routes this afternoon, it was reported to West Feliciana High School Administration that a loud noise was heard during an afternoon route. The students and bus driver believed the noise to be a firecracker at the time of the sound. After further investigation, the administration learned a high school student had a weapon on the bus that went off in the student’s book sack. The West Feliciana Parish Sheriff’s Office was immediately notified, and the student was arrested and is in custody. We have a zero-tolerance policy for weapons, and any student who violates that policy will be expelled pending due process.

Please help us by educating your child about the dangers of bringing a weapon on campus. We have a zero-tolerance policy, and we take these behaviors extremely seriously. Safety is our top priority, and West Feliciana Parish Schools along with the West Feliciana Parish Sheriff’s Office will continue to take all necessary measures to ensure the safety of our students and staff.

No other information has been released to the public as of this time.
