Louisiana Mother Arrested After Her Two Children Allegedly Test Positive for Cocaine
This is a wild story out of Kenner, Louisiana. A mother there has been arrested after two of her children were allegedly found to have cocaine in their system.
The Kenner Police Department was contacted by Children's Hospital in New Orleans on November 21 and told they were treating a four-year-old female for a fractured arm. They also stated that the incident happened in Kenner.
Detectives arrived at the hospital and met with staff there who advised that the mother of the child, Ashley Burguera, 34, brought the child to the hospital explaining that the child was jumping on a bed at their home and fell off. A short time later the child began complaining that her arm was hurting.
A urine analysis of the young girl revealed a "Preliminary Positive" result for cocaine in her system. The Department of Child and Family Services (DCFS) was then notified. After they learned that Burguera was at the hospital with her two-year-old son, they requested a drug test on him too.
The test revealed a "Preliminary Positive" result in his system as well. DCFS advised Kenner PD detectives that their agency was going to take temporary custody of the two kids and a custody hearing would be held on November 26.

Kenner detectives attempted to interview Burguera at the hospital but her attorney who was with her declined their request for an interview.
Detectives then executed a search warrant at Burguera's home and found several small bags and bottle caps of a white powdery residue which tested positive for cocaine. The bags of cocaine residue found were in areas of the residence that were easily accessible to children.
An arrest warrant was obtained for Burguera for the following crimes:
- Illegal Use of Controlled Dangerous Substances in the Presence of Person Under Seventeen (2 counts)
- Second Degree Cruelty to Juveniles
- Cruelty to Juveniles and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
On November 26, Burguera was arrested and transported to the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center where she was searched and found to be in possession of a small amount of cocaine.
The investigation is ongoing into this case.
