Tragic End for Good Samaritan Seen Shooting, Hit by Truck in Viral Video Incident

A shocking incident captured in a now-viral video ended tragically, claiming the life of a Good Samaritan who intervened during a violent carjacking. The Lumberton Police Department has confirmed the death of 38-year-old Jonathan Adam Lecompte of Fayetteville, North Carolina, following a brutal altercation that unfolded in broad daylight back in mid-March.

The video, which spread rapidly across social media platforms over the weekend, shows a distressing sequence of events. Initially, it captures a man in a reflective vest – later identified as Lecompte – firing at a white utility truck in what appears to be an attempt to stop a theft. The truck hastily reverses, seemingly trying to escape, before making a shocking return. In a horrifying moment, the truck rams into Lecompte, sending him flying into the air, as onlookers are audibly shocked.

Authorities reported that the violence began around 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, in the 4100 block of W. 5th Street. The perpetrator, identified as 28-year-old Ricky Alex Driggers of Lumberton, had initially been involved in a hit-and-run at the Go Gas station on 2605 W. 5th Street. He subsequently attempted to hijack a second vehicle outside a McDonald’s restaurant when Lecompte and several others intervened in an effort to stop the ongoing carjacking.

Driggers successfully carjacked the vehicle of one of the Good Samaritans, using it to fatally strike Lecompte. He was pronounced dead at a local hospital shortly thereafter. Following the assault, Lumberton police engaged in a high-speed chase with Driggers, who eventually crashed on Selma Road near Highway 41.

Ricky Alex Driggers has been charged with first-degree murder, two counts of attempted common law robbery, larceny of a motor vehicle, and felony fleeing to elude. He is currently being held without bond in the Robeson County Detention Center.
