Texas Fans Of Yellowstone Love The Fact It’s Filmed In Texas
The immensely popular tv series, Yellowstone, is set in Montana but it's filmed in many places. Texas is one of them and will (probably) be home base for a new series.
Yellowstone is about a ranching family and the "Dutton Ranch" featured on the show is real. It's actually the Chief Joseph Ranch in Montana where you will find the actual 5,000 square foot Dutton mansion.
It's not only real, you can reserve a room there.
Another filming location for Yellowstone is in Texas and it's owned by the shows creator, Taylor Sheridan. It's known as the 6666 Ranch, (pronounced "four sixes", not 6-6-6-6 Ranch or sixty six - sixty six Ranch), and it's in Guthrie, Texas, less than 90 miles from Lubbock.
6666 Ranch makes appearances in Yellowstone and will most likely be the central location for the spin off series Sheridan has in mind, titled simply 6666.
According to the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal, the 6666 brand was founded by Samuel Burk Burnett in 1870 at the age of 19. In 1900, he purchased the 8 Ranch in Guthrie, Texas, which became the nucleus of the present-day 6666 Ranch, followed by the Dixon Creek Ranch and later purchases which now all make up the ranch's 266,255-plus acres. - oklahoman.com
It stayed in the Burnett family for 4 generations until Burnett's great granddaughter, Anne Marion, passed away in 2020. Her will called for the 6666 ranch to be sold.
Sheridan bought it in 2022 for a mere $320 million. Yellowstone fans can also check out the shows 2 prequels, 1883 and 1923. Like Yellowstone, 6666 is about a ranching family and filmed on a real, working cattle ranch just like the Chief Joseph Ranch used for Yellowstone.
Except 6666 will be better ... it's filmed in Texas.
