“Yikes! Pet Food Recalled In Texas Is Also Hazardous To Humans

A popular pet food is being recalled in Texas and several other states as it poses a danger not only to animals but also to anyone who handles it.

So far, no cases of any actual illnesses have been reported but a sample of the food tested positive for salmonella so the Food and Drug Administration and the Vitakraft Sun Seed company are recalling a certain batch.

Salmonella is no joke and can be transmitted through touching the food, an infected animal or an infected animals poop.

The affected product, Sun Seed Vita Prima Hedgehog Food, 25 ounces, has the UPC number 0-87535-40060-4 and an expiry date of October 18, 2025. The recall announcement said: "The package is predominantly yellow and white with a picture of a hedgehog in the bottom left corner. - newsweek

Salmonella messes humans up pretty good, causing fever, diarrhea, (sometimes it can be bloody ... yuck), nausea, vomiting and stomach pains. It can take up to a week to get over it and some people experience even worse.

The elderly, kids under 5 and those who are pregnant or who have a weakened immune system are in extra danger.

Newsweek reports that: "Individual customers who have bought the hedgehog food are instructed to "discontinue use of the product, handle the remaining product with gloved hands, and wash hands thoroughly after handling the product."
