UPDATE: SFD K-9 Search & Rescue Benefit Horse Show Labor Day Weekend
UPDATE: Sad news for folks that were planning on attending the 19th Annual Shreveport Fire Department K-9 Search and Rescue Task Force Benefit Horse Show this weekend at Holly Hill Farm in Benton, LA! The show has been canceled according to organizer Marty Taylor Harper due to lack of participation and the chief organizer for the Shreveport Fire Department K-9 Search and Rescue team having COVID-19. However, I'm sure they'd be happy with any support/donation you could provide.
Plus, it's not all bad news. In the absence of the horse show, Donna Canales and Julie Norman Shamberger, two of the fabulous trainers at Holly Hill, have pulled together a 'practice' show and potluck. Julie says, 'Potluck dish entry fee. It will start at 8:00 AM with jumpers 2'3, 2'6, 2'9 then 3'. Good jumps, flowers and all. Then about 10 am we will start with poles on the ground, cross rails 18" and go up to 2'. Sunday we will do 20 rides of dressage available with Regis judging starting at 9:00 AM. $5 per ride. Let me know if you want to do dressage. It will be filled as I hear from people. Come on out. It will be fun!!' It WILL be fun! I'm already signed up for both days since I won't be working as the show announcer anymore;)
The 19th Annual Shreveport Fire Department K-9 Search and Rescue Task Force Benefit Horse Show is coming up Labor Day weekend, September 4th and 5th, 2021, and it'll be fun for the entire family at Holly Hill Farm in Benton, LA!
The one thing horse people love just as much as their ponies are their dogs and Kathryn McFadden D.V.M., owner of Towne South Animal Hospital, Marty Taylor-Harper and Tracy Hewlett from Holly Hill work tirelessly each year to produce this event featuring hunter, jumper, and dressage competitions. Unfortunately, Kathryn has retired from the endeavor, but Marty and Tracy, and now Kerry Foster, have graciously kept this Labor Day weekend tradition going for horse and dog lovers in the Ark-La-Tex!
Come on out to Holly Hill Farm in Benton both Saturday and Sunday, September 4th and 5th for lots of horsing around! Make sure to drop by the announcer's booth Saturday and say hi because I'll be there donating my time! If you're not competing, don't worry, there's still plenty to see and do with great food, demonstrations with the Search and Rescue dogs, shopping, and your chance to meet the heroes of the Shreveport Fire Department's K-9 Search and Rescue Task Force. The event is free to spectators, however social distancing and/or masks will be required.
