Kendrick Lamar Joins Eminem As Only Rapper to Chart on Billboard 200 for 350 Weeks
Kendrick Lamar continues to find himself standing side-by-side with rap legends.
On Monday (July 15), the folks at Chart Data pointed out that K. Dot's debut major label LP, good kid, m.A.A.d city, has been on the Billboard 200 albums chart for 350 weeks. By reaching this number of weeks being on the chart, Kendrick joins Em as the only other rapper with a hip-hop album on the chart for at least 350 weeks. Em's 2002 album, The Eminem Show, holds the record for most Billboard 200-charting weeks with 357.
This announcement arrives nearly a year after K. Dot joined Emimen as the only other rapper who'd had a Billboard 200-charting album for at least 300 weeks. At the rate he's going, Kendrick might even eclipse Eminem's 357 mark. We'll have to wait and see.
Filled with visceral rhymes and hard-hitting production, GKMC is the LP that immediately established Kendrick Lamar as one of rap's brightest talents. Although his subsequent LPs have technically earned more commercial success, K. Dot's major label debut will always have a place the hearts of his biggest fans—and the history books.
