Wilson was born and raised here in the Bayou State, growing up in Baskin, Louisiana. Lainey's musical prowess began at just nine years old when she began to sing and write after attending a show at the Grand Ole Opry.
"I just remember looking up there, being like, 'Man, I wanna do that'."

Wilson's musical talent became a career early on when one of her high school teachers suggested she impersonate the Disney Sitcom character Hannah Montana, which quickly Wilson turned into a traveling job. During some of these impersonation shows Wilson would start the show playing her original songs before transitioning into Hannah Montana songs.
After she finished high school, Lainey Wilson made her way to Nashville where she built her career out of a trailer she and her dad set up in the parking lot of a recording studio that agreed to provide the at the time young artist with free electrical hook-up while she played local shows and wrote new music.
