UPDATE:

You can watch the announcement here on Jeff Landry's Facebook page:

Landry just called the $10 billion deal the "largest private investment" in Louisiana's history and will create thousands of jobs at the projected 4 million square foot facility. The Governor stated that this will be the largest Meta Data Center in the world.

Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry is set to make a 'major economic announcement' today involving North Louisiana. While nothing has been officially released, several outlets are reporting that that announcement will involve a brand new Meta Data Center in the Rayville area, just outside of Monroe.

The announcement is expected to made today during Governor Landry's press conference at noon today.

A Major Project Coming to North Louisiana?

According to reports, today's announcement is expected to be the official announcement of $5 billion Meta Project Data Center. Allegedly, Meta will build a giant data center on over 2,000 acres in Richland Parish's Holly Ridge area.

For those that don't know, Meta is the parent company of Facebook. In recent years, they've been building these giant data facilities all over the world. There are 21, so far, globally including 2 in Texas.

This project has been talked about dating back to November, when Louisiana Public Service Commissioner Foster Campbell discussed the plan, calling it 'huge'.

At the time, Governor Landry declined to comment on the matter. But the expectation is that Governor Landry will officially announce the deal and the overall plan today during his press conference.

What Could a Meta Facility In North Louisiana Look Like?

Over the last two years, Meta has been building a similar facility in Temple, Texas. This $800 million data center is state of the art and as big as 4 football fields.

If rumors are true, the Louisiana facility is going to be much larger. At this point, we don't know anything for sure. But, based off the roll out and plan for the Temple facility, we can get a pretty idea of what to expect when construction starts in Louisiana.

Meta Data Centers are run by 100% renewable energy. For instance, the Temple facility will be run by a 204 - megawatt solar farm. About that project, this is what a Meta Spokesperson had to say: "“Like all our facilities, this data center will be supported by 100% renewable energy. Our data centers are designed to be cooled using outside air for most of the year.” With the Louisiana project expected to take up roughly 2,000 acres, it is safe to assume it will be a massive facility with a massive solar farm attached.

The Meta Data Centers are 'AI-optimized' and help keep all of the company's platforms including Facebook & Instagram up and running.
