Are Louisiana Residents Getting Enough Bang for Their Tax Buck?
Taxes are paid to the government so that it can provide services to the public, but 66% of Americans believe they're paying too much in taxes compared to the services they receive. Louisiana is loved by many because the state seemingly doesn't want your tax dollars, with a nearly nonexistent property tax, so compared to how much money we put into the Pelican State what kind of return do we see on that investment?
Louisiana Takes Very Little From It's Tax Payers
Louisiana takes almost nothing from its residents compared to other states. In Louisiana, the state property tax rate is only 0.55%, which for the average home in Louisiana would cost you about $1,146 a year on your taxes, other states pay an upward of $1,500 a year.
The property tax isn't the only tax the state keeps low, the state sales tax stays incredibly low, currently at 5%. Louisiana is in the cheaper half of states when it comes to what the state taxes from you, less than an average of $8,000 a year in state taxes.

Louisiana has the second worst government services out of all 50 states. Rated fourth worst for school systems, second worst for road and bridge quality, second worst for violent crime, second most residents in poverty, and tied for worst overall water quality.
Louisiana residents are concerned with the threat of losing tax funding as the state relies on federal funding for most of its functions, and with the Department of Government Efficiency cutting federal spending some fear Louisiana could lose vital funding.
