A Louisiana man has been arrested in Austin, TX, after being charged with the second degree murder of his own mother.

34-year-old Stephen Wayne Meyers II is currently awaiting extradition back to Louisiana. He was arrested in Austin County, and he will remain there until he can be properly extradited back to Louisiana. He is facing 2nd degree murder charges in the beating death of his own mother.

Investigators believe the murder was committed on November 2nd in Crowley, Louisiana. Acadia Parish Sheriff K P Gibson says, "There were some circumstances where she and her son were together on the second (Nov. 2) in the evening hours and that was the last time she was seen."

Upon further investigation, the authorities found the body of his 59-year-old mother in a field near their property. As of this time, no motive for the murder has been determined. Investigators do know that no weapons were used during the attack. Shortly after the alleged attack, Acadia Parish Sheriff's Office learned that Meyers had traveled to Austin with a family member. On November 5th, investigators made their way to Austin County in search of Meyers. Once there, they worked with Austin County Sheriff's Office in an effort to locate Meyers. They did just that soon after, finding Meyers hiding near the residence he had been linked to.

Sheriff Gibson is very clear in his belief that Meyers beat his own mother to death, saying, "I can’t say clearly why he did this…but we do know for a fact that he did so. We don’t know if he was irate over any specific issue."

He will be extradited back to Louisiana in the coming days where he'll face a second-degree murder charge and other unrelated charges.
