Why More Louisianans Feel the State Is Headed in the Right Direction
For the first time in years, a near majority of Louisianans are feeling optimistic about the state's future. New poll results from LSU show that half of Louisiana is headed in the right direction, a sharp rise from just a few years ago.
State Sentiment Shifts
The LSU Public Policy Research lab conducts a yearly poll of the state to get a good idea of how the people of Louisiana feel about a number of different things. Just last year, the study showed that 68% of the people in the Bayou State felt that the state was headed in the wrong direction.
This year's poll shows a noticeable increase in how many people feel that Louisiana is on a good track, split 50/50 between poll respondents.
Louisiana Divided by Political Lines
The poll seems to suggest the reason more residents of Louisiana are now hopeful for the state, has to do with the voters of the state. From the 2023 study to the 2025 study nearly half of republicans changed their view, now saying that Louisiana is on a good track. At the same time the number of Democrats in Louisiana who believe the state is on a bad path, grew by 20% in the same time.
In the latest poll, it was 71-74% of the Democrats in Louisiana who said the state is headed for disaster, while only 30-35% of Republicans felt the same way. Outside of the state's future, the 2025 edition of the poll found that majority of the state wants the government to focus on bettering the economy and job market.
