Louisiana Searching for the Next Poet Laureate
Roses are red,
Violets are blue,
If you can write poems,
Louisiana needs you!
OK, so I'm not the greatest poet in the world. Honestly, I'm not even the best poet in this room - and I'm in here alone. That means I've got no chance to become the next Poet Laureate for the great state of Louisiana - but maybe someone you know does!
If you know a fancy wordsmith, the Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities (LEH) and the governor want them to go prose-fessional! Submit their letter(s) of nomination, six to eight examples of their work, and don't forget to include any time their work(s) has been published to the LEH by Friday, Feb. 22 to be considered. The Advertiser reports that the selection committee will announce the final decision in May of this year.
The person selected to be the Bayou State's sonneteer will retain the position for 2 years (unless there's some kind of grammatical scandal), and will be required to deliver an annual public reading.
