LSU Band Plays Controversial ‘Neck’ After Odell Beckham, Jr. Agrees To Pay Fine [VIDEO]
Just how much power does Odell Beckham, Jr. have?
Well, in this case, he may not have had the power, but he definitely had enough money to get the LSU band to play a song that usually puts them in hot water.
If you're an LSU fan, you're probably familiar with the NSFW chant that goes hand in hand when the band plays "Neck." The song is their rendition of the Cameo classic "Talkin' Out The Side Of Your Neck," later sampled by Dem Franchize Boyz on a track with the same title.
A lot of bands play the song—but somewhere along the way, LSU fans decided to add their own (very NSFW) lyrics which is probably why it is very seldom, if ever, that you'll catch them playing the tune.
They banned the song in 2010, but sometime in 2013 brought the song back sparingly. They even passed out materials in hopes of hushing the vulgar #STTDB chant.
This weekend, former LSU standout Odell Beckham, Jr. was in town for the LSU-Texas A&M game and he wanted to hear the band play "Neck." One band member tweeted out that it wasn't gonna happen.
It seems as if he may have underestimated the power of OBJ in Tiger Stadium.
According to SB Nation, Beckham even offered to pony up the fine.
Whatever OBJ said must have worked, because after LSU defeated A&M, the band struck up the rarely played tune and the crowd did not hold back from the NSFW chant.
UPDATE: It seems that we have more confirmation that Odell was indeed behind the playing of "Neck," but no word on whether there were any fines or not.
