Mac Miller’s Music Streams Increase 970 Percent After Death
As often happens when any musician passes away, streams of Mac Miller's music have increased 970 percent after the rapper's death. Following his passing on Friday (Sept. 7), Miller's music, which includes audio and video, earned 32.5 million streams, up 3.04 million from the day before, Billboard reports.
During the increase in streams, Mac's top five most-streamed songs became "Self Care," "Donald Trump," "Best Day Ever," "Hurt Feelings" and "Weekend" featuring Miguel. While five of Miller's albums have made it into the top five of the Billboard 200 in the past, much of the rapper's catalogue is expected to be back on the charts next week.
The Swimming artist was found dead on Friday (Sept. 7) from an apparent overdose in his San Fernando Valley home in California. Following his untimely passing, his family released a statement thanking fans for their support and asking for privacy. "He was a bright light in this world for his family, friends and fans," they wrote. "Thank you for your prayers."
An official cause of death will be revealed when the results of a full toxicology report become available. According to a spokesperson for the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner, an autopsy was completed over the weekend and Miller's body was released to his family.
Since his death, Miller has received an outpouring of love from his peers in the hip-hop community. During a Saturday (Sept. 8) show in Chicago, Childish Gambino dedicated the song "Riot" to Mac, while J. Cole took some time during his Sept. 9 show in Las Vegas to pay tribute to the late artist.
