[UPDATE] The pedestrian who died in yesterday's hit-and-run accident on North Market is identified as 71-year-old Melba Robinson of Texarkana, Arkansas.

[ORIGINAL STORY] A Shreveport man faces charges for a fatal accident involving a pedestrian in north Shreveport early this morning.

Just after 5 a.m., patrol officers were called to a major accident in the 4200 block of North Market Street. They found a woman lying motionless along the shoulder of the road. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

While police were investigating, 27-year-old Raphell Rogers showed up to talk to them. They learned Rogers was driving the vehicle that struck the woman.

Rogers was apparently headed northbound on North Market, near North Lakewood Drive, when he hit the woman, who was walking along the shoulder. He was interviewed at police headquarters, then booked for hit and run, and having an expired license and no insurance.

Toxicology test results are pending and the investigation continues.
