Mark Ronson Clarifies Sapiosexual Comments: ‘I Apologize If Anybody Misunderstood’
Mark Ronson has apologized after coming out as sapiosexual.
The music producer clarified the comments he made during Good Morning Britain last week, in which he revealed he identifies as a person who is sexually attracted to intelligence, not gender. Now, in a new interview with Rolling Stone, Ronson said the show’s hosts ran with his remarks before he had a chance to really explain himself.
“I do not consider myself part of any marginalized community and I apologize if anybody misunderstood or took offense to it,” Ronson told the magazine on Wednesday (September 25).
He went on to say that the term was defined to him as, “when you’re attracted to intelligence" and that his initial response was “That sounds great. Of course, who wouldn’t be?” However, he didn't think his comments were going to be referred to as "coming out," which is language usually reserved to people in the LGBTQ+ community.
“And they were like basically like, okay, Mark Ronson identifies himself as sapiosexual, that’s great,’” the 44-year-old added. “And then they proceeded to ask me about Miley Cyrus’ dating life and something else I probably wasn’t that informed to talk about, either, and then that was it.”
“It sounds like I went on a TV show to be like, ‘Guys, I have some big news,’” Ronson continued. “And the fact that I would ever go on and sort of declare myself as a heterosexual white male a part of any marginalized community was terrifying to me or just like embarrassing. I didn’t really think much of it.”
