Broadway Goes Fetch With Possible ‘Mean Girls the Musical’ [VIDEO]
We already loved Tina Fey as a writer and player on ‘Saturday Night Live’ and '30 Rock,' but her ‘Mean Girls’ screenplay and major movie debut is what really jettisoned her to the heights of stardom. We knew she was a genius, but that movie solidified her as someone we really admired.
So, what if she and her very musically talented husband – whom Fey says does all the scoring for ‘30 Rock’ for free “just because we’re married” – put their considerable talents together for the forces of good to work on a musical version of the movie?
Minds. Blown.
Fey let the super fetch news slip on the red carpet of the SAG Awards on Sunday night. As E! host Giuliana Rancic wrapped up her interview with Tina, she said, “Before I let you go, ‘Mean Girls the Musical'? Is that real?”
And Fey replied, “Maybe. I would love to. I’m trying to develop it, actually with my husband ... I think Paramount’s on board. Yeah.”
Her level of excitement not only endears her to us even more, but makes us feel like this is something she’s been working toward for a while and now feels ready to talk about. And since ‘30 Rock’ -- for which her SAG colleagues awarded her the trophy for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Comedy Series, natch -- is ending, she should have all kinds of time to develop it.
We’re trading in our tickets for ‘Book of Mormon’ right now.
