A Louisiana Child Molester Was Set Free 7 Years Early.

66-year-old Brian Matherne was serving his nearly 30-year sentence when he was freed early from Rayburn Correctional Center in Washington Parish. According to WBRZ.com Matherne pleaded guilty to charges of molestation of a juvenile and aggravated crimes against nature in 2000. So if Matherne plead guilty he was probably sentenced that same year in 2000. Let's do some simple math, a nearly 30-year sentence means this horrid human shouldn't be among us until 2030.

How Did This 66 Year Old Child Molester Get Out Early?

What if it was all blamed on a simple math problem? The mistake was chalked up to a "mathematical error". Brian Matherne was released from Rayburn Correctional Center in Washington Parish on February 1st, 2022. When Brian Matherne was sentenced the court specifically restricted the application of "good time to the sentence imposed,". So Matherne had no chance of getting out early.

Thankfully a State Lawmaker Familiar With the Case Brought it to the Agency's Attention on February 27th.

According to WBRZ.com, the Department of Corrections officials didn't catch the "erroneous time calculation" and a State Lawmaker is the hero that pulled up all the court documents proving there was a mistake made. Keep in mind at this point this child molester had been out for almost a month.

To Whoever This State Lawmaker Is, "Thank You".

Thank you for keeping our streets in Louisiana safe from animals like this, at least for another 7 years.
