"Saturday Night Live" cast member Jay Pharoah will take over the role of President Barack Obama when the long-running sketch show begins new episodes this week.Pharoah will take over for longtime cast member Fred Armisen, who has played Obama since 2008. In an interview with the New York Times, "SNL" creator and executive producer Lorne Michaels said it was time "to shake it up."

Pharoah has been with the show since 2010, and has gotten positive notices for his impressions of Denzel Washington, Will Smith and Eddie Murphy.

In other "SNL" news, Michaels announced that Jason Sudeikis, known for playing Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney, will stay with the show at least until January.
