If You Spend Time in Downtown Shreveport You Will Notice Something Very Heartbreaking.

It feels like every time I walk my dog downtown I discover another abandoned building. One of the most beautiful buildings in downtown Shreveport has been left to rot and it really is heartbreaking. I have always wondered who owns these buildings. Why do so many people own buildings downtown and let them rot away? Mayor Arceneaux may be making some serious moves in the downtown Shreveport scene.

Shreveport's Mayor has invited downtown property owners in Shreveport and other interested parties to attend a meeting to discuss the proposed Vacant Property Regulation Ordinance, which is currently pending before the City Council. “I want to be sure that all owners of downtown property have the opportunity to be
informed about this ordinance, because it makes significant changes to the way the City
treats vacant downtown properties,” Mayor Arceneaux stated, “One goal is to encourage owners of vacant properties to keep them in an appropriate condition, but the larger intent is to encourage owners of vacant downtown buildings to return them to commerce whenever possible.”

Do you own a building in downtown Shreveport or want to own one soon? You don't want to miss the meeting in the Council Chambers at Government Plaza, on Thursday, July 25, 2024, at 10:00 a.m.
