Unlike some of the human employees, the 900+ furry investigators that work for the Transportation Security Administration are quick and professional because of their extensive training.  But, not every dog is cut out to be one of the elite, working dogs of the TSA.  Until now, I never really thought about what happens to the cutest little washouts that don't measure up.  As it turns out, quite a few pups are flunked out of the program for being too friendly.

If that last sentence makes you sad, dry your eyes!  The people that stole your expensive bottle of lotion because it was too big have done something totally right!  According to the official TSA website, you can adopt a dog that was just too darn cute to be a sky cop!

You will have to apply, and you will be expected to be meet these requirements:

  • You must have a fenced in yard at the time of applying.
  • There should be no intentions of moving within six months of adopting a dog.
  • Homes must abide by all local pet ordinances.
  • You must agree to provide the dog with appropriate medical care, exercise, training and companionship.
  • All existing pets in the home must have current vaccinations and preventive care.
  • The age of children in the home will be taken into consideration when selecting a dog.

If selected, you will need to travel to the TSA facility in San Antonio, Texas to meet the dog that could be your new best friend.  There are several other factors to take into account, so make sure you check out all of the details here.
