The Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine has just released a new report saying beagles are capable of identifying lung cancer in humans with almost perfect accuracy.

The study shows that three beagles included in the research were "97% accurate in distinguishing blood serum samples of patients with malignant lung cancer" according to

A Dog's sense of smell is 10,000 times stronger than humans. However, the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine says beagles have "225 million olfactory receptors compared to humans’ 5 million receptors".

The research says beagles also seem to be able to detect lung cancer in human breath as accurately as with the blood serum samples.

"LECOM and BioScentDX are nearing completion on a second study that examines the dogs’ efficacy in detecting breast, lung and colorectal cancer in breath condensate samples collected from patients’ facemasks."
